Kingborough

The Kingborough Council, with an estimated population of well over 33,400 people, is one of the fastest growing Local Government Areas in the state of Tasmania. This municipality, which covers a total land area of 717 square kilometres, is located about 10 kilometres south of Hobart, the state capital. Its 336-kilometer stretch of coastline is Tasmania's longest.

The Kingborough Council, surrounded by the Glenorchy, Hobart, and Huon Valley Local Government Areas, is part of the State District and Federal Division of Denison and Franklin. The municipality's Seat of Council, the township of Kingston, is the gateway between Hobart and the D'Entrecasteaux Channel region. Its main towns are Blackmans Bay, Kettering, Kingston, Margate, Middleton, Snug, Taroona, and Woodbridge. It also includes Bruny Island, which lies just off the coast.

There is much to experience in the Municipality of Kingborough, something its residents and tourists can attest to it:

Local artists can participate in the Abel Tasman Art Prize. Established in 2000, this annual event gives its participants an opportunity to win a three-week trip to the Netherlands to experience Dutch culture.

Health and sports enthusiasts can take time to visit the Kingborough Sports Centre, which caters to a wide variety of age groups. Operating since 1979, this facility provides for several health and sports activities such as aerobics, badminton, basketball, indoor cricket, indoor soccer, netball, pilates, sauna, squash, table tennis, and volleyball.

Children of all ages can also have fun in the numerous playgrounds throughout the municipality.
